Art In Public Places

Maumee River Crossing

Maumee River Crossing
It has been a busy year for the Maumee River Project.  The public art components of this project are moving forward in a two-prong approach.  The first is directly related public artwork along the corridor.  A call for artists for the two selected sites is in development and will be launched in early 2006.

The second and most active component is the tribute memorial, which has reached the final phase of the artist selection process. Over the past year we have been assisting the Maumee River Crossing Tribute Memorial Taskforce through the process of selecting an artist to create a memorial to honor those who built the new bridge, with a specific focus on those who were injured or lost their lives.   For more information on this project and the winning design, please visit www.lookuptoledo.org.

Discovering Bridges in the Classroom

The Discovering Bridges Loan Box:

The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, as a member of the Education Committee for the Veterans' Glass City Skyway Task Force, has produced a tool kit for educators. The Discovering Bridges Loan Boxes include models, maps, videos, books and posters. The kit also includes a teacher's guide filled with fresh, teacher-tested classroom activities as well as lesson plans and helpful Web sites. Loan boxes are available to borrow from WGTE (419-380-4634). Waiting for a loan box to become available? The Toledo/Lucas County Public Library has copies of the Teacher's Guide to get you started.
