The Arts Commission, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Firelands Association of the Visual Arts and OberlinCollege present the Ninth Congressional District Art Competition to honor artistic excellence demonstrated by area high school students. The competition is part of An Artistic Discovery, a nationwide activity initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and encourage the creative talents of young Americans. The first place winner has their artwork displayed in Washington, D.C. for one year. The two runners-up will have their works on display in Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s offices.Added to the competition in 2006 was the selection of a work of art from the competition that would be well suited for a translation as “surface design” on a Libbey glassware product. The 2010 Ninth Congressional District Exhibition will be on display, free and open to the public in the Lobby of Fifth Third Center at One Seagate in Downtown Toledo, Ohio February 1 - 21, 2010 and in the Science Center of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio March 1 – 21, 2010.
